After a breakout season in which she led the conference and ranked among the top 25 in the NCAA with a .565 field-goal percentage, junior Dayna Rouse was named to the All-Big South second team Monday, as announced by the conference office.

In the first season under the guidance of head coach Rebecca Tillett, Rouse becomes the first Lancer to be named to either the first or second team all-conference. She joins All-Big South honorable mention honorees Raven Williams and Autumn Childress in earning all-conference accolades. Sophomore Stephanie Guihon joins Rouse in being named to the Big South All-Academic Team.

A product of Pittsburgh, Pa., Rouse led the Big South from January-March in field-goal percentage, shooting .565 to rank among top 25 in NCAA. Her field-goal percentage places her first in Longwood’s Division I era and third all-time in program history through the end of the regular season.

Rouse finished fifth in the league in scoring with 14.2 points per game, while shooting .593 in Big South play. With two 30-point games, including a Longwood Division I scoring record 34 points in Longwood’s overtime win over Gardner-Webb, Rouse had 12 games with 15-plus points with 10 of those games coming in Big South play. She also finished third in the league in blocks (1.4 BPG) and free-throw percentage (.840).

Meanwhile, Guihon earns her first Big South All-Academic Team honoree, sporting a 3.91 grade-point average and has been named to Longwood’s Dean’s list or President’s list in all three semesters, achieving at least a 3.50 GPA. She’s second on the Longwood roster, averaging 10.1 points per game and leads the team in steals (1.4 SPG). Guihon has scored in double figures in 14 games this season.

The Big South will present both Rouse and Guihon with their awards this Tuesday, March 12, before Longwood opens Big South first round play against Campbell in Buies Creek, N.C. The opening tip is set for 7 p.m. inside Gore Arena.
